Te Oranga Hinengaro – Māori Mental Health Wellbeing
Date: October 2018
Results from the New Zealand Mental Health Monitor & Health and Lifestyles Survey
Te Oranga Hinengaro: Māori Mental Wellbeing Report (2018) presents a kaupapa Māori perspective on mental wellbeing, emphasising that Māori mental health is inseparable from culture, identity, whānau, whenua, and self‑determination. The report calls for Māori‑led solutions, Tiriti‑based partnerships, and system change to address inequities, strengthen cultural connection, and ensure mental health services support Māori to thrive, not just to be treated for illness.
