Ko Mournes te māunga, Ko Lagan te awa, Nō Lisburn Northern Ireland ahau.

Ko JT taku hoa tane, nō Tūhoe ia. Ko Waiohau tōna marae.

Ko Peyton rāua ko Elysse āku tamariki.

Ko Sarah-Jane Reweti toku ingoa.

Originally from Northern Ireland, I have called Aotearoa my home for almost 17 years. I am a wife, a mother, a sister, daughter, and a committed mental health nurse.

Mental Health nursing has been my lifelong passion and even after 20+ years in the field, I have never lost my energy or drive to make a difference and leave others with a sense of hope.

Since 2021 I have been in the role of Clinical Nurse Director within the Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Services at Te Whatu Ora Waitematā.  I bring experience in senior leadership of clinical practice, quality improvement, policy development, and operational management. I am passionate about leading clinical practice which incorporates hauora Māori health models, tikanga Māori and champions the sharing of power in relationships with tangata whaiora Māori and their whānau.

Nationally, I have established a strong nursing network through my work as a health committee panel member for the Nursing Council and as a technical expert assessor of the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Service standards.

In 2024, I completed my Master of Nursing research, a Māori centred qualitative study titled “Senior nurses’ perspectives on the status of Kawa Whakaruruhau and Cultural Safety for tāngata whaiora Māori and their whānau accessing adult mental health service in Aotearoa.” I am currently working on my manuscript for international journal publication.

I am committed to building on the strong foundations the college has established to maintain professional standards, advocate for our specialty, and have our nursing voice heard at national forums. My vision is to champion excellence in mental health nursing practice across Aotearoa.

I am honoured to be elected as Vice President and value the opportunity this brings to work closely with Kaiwhakahaere and the President.  Together, I believe we can continue to lead MHAIDs nursing in Aotearoa.  I am excited about the future of the college and look forward to working in partnership with the Māori caucus, board members, fellows, and all college members to strengthen our collective impact.
